The Lions Den

We had to get off the new tarred road to Cooktown to look in at the historical Lions Den. It was set up for the amusement of the miners back in the days of the Gold Rush.  I saw this place with pa when we camped in the area for 2 weeks in the late 80's. Back then it was on the dirt road to Cooktown and definitely not the "in" place that it has become.  The walls are covered in signatures with dates.  The cobwebs that were hanging from the roof in the 80's have been well and truly vacuumed away.  It is now possible to have a good lunch here.....without the dog!
